Welcome!

Welcome to the new sock KAL, "CAMPANULA for the CURE".
I recently took the plunge to publish my very own lace sock pattern, called CAMPANULA for the CURE, and I'm making it a fundraiser for the 2007 Weekend to End Breast Cancer.

All I ask in exchange for a copy of the pattern is that a donation of ANY AMOUNT (no matter how small) be made by sponsoring me for this 2-day 60-km walkathon next September benefiting the Princess Margaret Hospital, Canada’s leading Cancer treatment and research facility. Donate any amount you choose! Just put CAMPANULA in the message line or leave a comment here or on my blog. The WEBC site will inform me of the donation and I will email a PDF of the pattern ASAP (if you need another format, please let me know).

[EDIT - PLEASE NOTE: The Campanula pattern from 2007 has beeen repurposed in support of Tish's Stitches. The new Knitters for Knockers in 2008 pattern will be released shortly.]

In the interest of raising further awareness for this foot-related fundraiser (this sock pattern to sponsor a 60-km walkathon) and the fight to conquer cancer, I decided to start this CAMPANULA for the CURE knit-along! There will be weekly contests and prize draws (some beautiful hand-dyed sock yarns I recently acquired will be up for grabs, as well as more goodies to be announced) for posting about the project and your progress at the KAL site and for posting on your own blogs (please notify me, it can be hard to keep up with all of you, but I’ll try).

To this end, I am inviting you all to join me in knitting your very own Campanula socks starting this Wednesday August 1st (that also happens to be my birthday!) or as soon thereafter you can begin. And if you join later, don't worry. This KAL is not a race to the finish (though I will give a prize to the knitter of the first complete pair posted). Like my upcoming 60-km walk, slow and steady will get the job done. (If you are one of my intrepid test-knitters and you made only one sock, now’s a great time to finish the pair. If you made a pair, please post them and start another!)

I am also sending out a shout out to anyone with experience doing these things – if you’d be willing to advise me or perhaps even to co-host this endeavour with me, I will be very grateful! And if any purveyors of knitting paraphernalia are willing to donate small prizes, that would be wonderful!

Get your copy of the pattern by donating to the fight against cancer. I will send you an email with the pattern and a blogger-generated invitaTion to join this KAL.

I also have made a donation and I am anxiously awaiting the pattern. Want to knit the socks for my mother who found a lump in her breast, but we were lucky in that it was benign.

Thanks and best wishes

Hi,

I made a donation and already have the yarn ready and waiting. My friend's mother died of cancer last night, so this will be a nice memorial.

I'm in - this is fantastic! I didn't put Campanula in the message line, but I did put "Knitters Unite!"
When we all get together, it's amazing what we knitters can do. :)

A very close friend is a 2 year survivor of breast cancer. She had a double mastectomy. Her mother had died of breast cancer, her father of liver cancer, her younger brother and only sibling of leukemia. Her odds weren't good, so she chose what she chose. God bless her, and you, and all women and men who fight this hideous disease. May the cure come soon.

Now, I've got to go stash diving for sock yarn!

Thank you for doing this! I just found this KAL today.

I plan to knit these socks for my mom. She starts her second go round with chemo on Monday. She had breast cancer, mastectomy, chemo and radiation 13 years ago. The breast cancer cells reappeared in her lungs this past winter. I know how much this fundraising means.

I just made a donation. I'm so happy and honored to be part of this KAL.

Breast Cancer has attacked good people near and dear to me. Some have survived, some have not.

I'd like to think that maybe I can help someone even in this tiny way.

Thanks for the invite! I just donated as well and am looking forward to starting the pattern. This is a cause very near and dear to my heart (www.horizonofhope.com) so I'm always glad to help in any way I can. Best of luck with the walk and maybe I'll have the socks done for next year! lol

OK, I am joining and have contributed to your "Walk." Although I don't envy you walking 60 miles! The cause is so good and has personal meaning for me because I have 5 friends who in the past 5 years have experienced the plight of breast cancer. They are ALL survivors Yeah! Happy walking and I can't wait to make these socks.

I made my donation! My very good friend died of breast cancer. My mother used to knit knee highs for me, and I might try knitting these longer, and put elastic at the top like the ones she made me years ago, and maybe I will wear them to the Hospice Thornhill Fundraiser Gala where our Mezzo (and Knitting) Diva is performing!

take care, Clare

Hi There
Saw an invite in my mailbox yesterday but only read it today. This has come at such a strange time. At knitting group yesterday one of the ladies, a breast cancer survivor, mentioned some changes that make her think it might be back. We're all thinking good thoughts and hoping that she won't need a chemo cap anytime soon. I'll go make a donation once I post this. I think she'd like a pair of these socks to know that I'm thinking of her and wishing her well.

Uh,Oh! I made a donation, but forgot to put Campanula on the heading, darn it! My mother and I have both had lumps that turned out benign, it could have been much worse! Thank you for giving so much! Anyway, the pattern is Gorgeous! I'm looking forward to receiving it! Thanks, Juli in NM

hi just made a donation but I forgot to mention campanula!

Such a beautiful pattern and for a very important cause - I'm doing socks for the women in my family for Christmas so this pattern would be pefect

Mary Jeanne said...

I couldn't figure out where to put the word Campanula, but I made a donation and would like the pattern. I'm not really a pink person, but I got some pink Blue Faced Leicester at Rhinebeck this weekend; and met the sheep that made the wool. So this is a perfect breast cancer month project. I'll watch for the pattern.

Oops just made a donation to last year's fundraiser. But I guess it's ok because I saw the goal wasn't quite met yet. So how do I get the patter now? I think I forgot to put the word in. Oh my, I'm not very alert today. All the socks are lovely BTW. Sallysknits
